Mediale Produktion und soziale Konstruktion eines touristischen Raumes

    Abstract:
    This research looks at the making of tourist places, particularly with regard to the influence of motion pictures on place image which just recently came into focus of scientific researches. Illustrated through the making of the Indian movie 'Aap Kaa Surroor: The Moviee — The Real Luv Story' filmed on location in Heppenheim and the region around in 2007 and taking into account media representations of the City of Heppenheim (Bergstrasse), this research suggests that performing of tourist places comprises of multiple dimensions. To fathom these dimensions out interviews have been conducted with the film crew as well as with local authorities, businesses and residents. The findings of this paper propose that tourist places evolve from the collaboration of individuals, institutions, business networks or movies, inscribing meaning into the physical environment.
